Crimes Against Property

The Criminal Investigations Division is broken down into four distinct areas; one of which is the Crime Against Property Unit. The investigators of this unit are responsible for investigating burglary, both residential and commercial; felony and misdemeanor thefts, including auto theft. This unit also operates a Pawn Enforcement Unit, which oversees the pawning of property from the City of Delano and surrounding area. These investigators are able to check pawn slips against items stolen within our city in an effort to apprehend perpetrators and work towards returning property to our victims.

Computer crimes are on the rise throughout the United States, and the Criminal Investigations Division has investigators that are trained in this field of investigations.

Property crimes can be difficult to solve, and these investigators look for factors that will aid them in bringing your reported incident to a timely and positive resolution. The presence of solvability factors are some of the items these investigators need to assist them in their efforts. These factors include, but are not limited to:
  • The suspect is known or there is significant identifying information.
  • There is a witness to the offense.
  • There is potential physical evidence at the scene of the crime.
  • There is a suspect vehicle identified.
  • There is the potential for the stolen property to be traced or identified.
The investigators of the Crime Against Property Unit highly recommend that citizens utilize the Operation Identification Program that is sponsored though this Department’s Crime Prevention Unit. Please visit our Crime Prevention link for more information on this program, checking out an engraver, and obtaining downloadable and printable inventory lists for your personal use.
