Delano Area Dial-A-Ride
Delano Area Dial-A-Ride provides door to door service to seniors and persons with disabilities in the DART service area within the city limits of Delano and the surrounding unincorporated Delano Area Dial-A-Ride Busareas of Kern county. Also eligible for Delano Area Dial-A-Ride service are general public passengers who need a ride to or from an area outside the DART bus service area within the city limits of Delano or into the surrounding unincorporated areas of Kern county. All Delano Area Dial-A-Ride buses are wheelchair accessible.

Delano Area Dial-A-Ride also serves as the complementary ADA paratransit service for DART fixed route buses. ADA paratransit service is available to those who can not board a DART fixed route bus or access a DART fixed route bus stop independently due to their disability. This service operates in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • Monday - Friday: 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

No service is provided on:
  • Independance Day
  • Labor Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Sunday or on New Years Day
  • Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day

Saturday service operates on:
  • Cesar Chavez Day
  • Christmas Eve
  • Day after Thanksgiving
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Presidents Day
  • Veterans Day

Please call one hour before service ends for reservations. The last pick up times, Monday through Friday is at 4:30 p.m, and 3:30p.m. on Saturday.

General Rules & Regulations
Reserving a Dial-A-Ride (DAR) Trip
To be given priority over other riders, an ADA certified rider must call prior to 5:00 p.m., the day before (or up to 7 days in advance) if they wish to ride DAR. DAR will make every effort to schedule ADA certified passengers for a ride within one hour of their scheduled time.

ADA Complaint Policy

Title II and III of the American Disability Act of 1990 (ADA) provides that no entity shall discriminate against an individual who a disability in connection with the provision of transportation services.  The law sets forth specific requirements for vehicle and facility accessibility and the provision of services including access to fixed bus routes and complementary paratransit services.  DART is committed to providing safe and reliable transportation to all people without discrimination based on disabilities.

El Título II de la ADA prohíbe la discriminación de individuos calificados con discapacidades en todos los programas, actividades y servicios de entidades públicas. Se aplica a todos los gobiernos estatales y locales, sus departamentos y agencias, y cualquier otra dependencia o distrito de propósito especial de los gobiernos estatales o locales. Aclara los requerimientos de la sección 504 de la Ley de Rehabilitación de 1973 para los sistemas de transporte público que reciban asistencia financiera federal y amplía la cobertura a todas las entidades públicas que brinden transporte público, ya sea que reciban asistencia financiera o no. Subscription Policy
Subscription service is the practice of providing repetitive trips over an extended period of time without the passenger calling to request each trip. According to ADA guidelines, this service may not absorb more than 50% of the trips available on a given day. This service is good for dialysis patients and people who travel to the same destination on a daily or weekly basis. It is the responsibility of the passenger to reconfirm all subscription trips, which are scheduled after holidays, school vacations, or other breaks in service.

Meeting the Bus
Passengers must be ready to go 15 minutes before their scheduled pick up time. The driver will wait for two minutes. If you miss your ride, you will have to call again, but may not get a ride for at least two hours. If the bus is more than 15 minutes late, passengers will not be considered a no-show, if they are not present when the bus arrives.

No-Shows & Cancellations
If you do not need a ride after you have scheduled one, please call and cancel as soon as possible, but no less than 15 minutes before your pick up time. No-shows and those who do not cancel ahead of pick up time, or attempt to cancel after the bus has arrived will be considered a no-show. Three no-shows in a year will be cause for suspension of DAR service for 30 days.

Visitors to the Delano area that are ADA-certified by another transit system may ride Delano Area Dial-A-Ride for 21 service days. Visitors requiring service beyond 21 service days must be certified on the Delano Area Dial-A-Ride system if they wish to continue to ride.

While riding on Delano Area Dial-A-Ride, each ADA-certified passenger can ride with one Personal care attendant (PCA), who provides individual assistance to qualified passengers. PCA’s are not charged for the trip. The PCA must travel to and from the same destination as the passenger. Additional companions may be accommodated on a space available basis. Companions pay full fare and must travel to and from the same destination as the passenger.

Seat Belts & Safety Belts
Passengers must wear at all times seat belts for ambulatory riders and safety lap belts that are secured to the floor of the bus for riders using wheelchairs and electric scooters. Passengers are required to follow other safety precautions given by the driver.

Shared Rides
Delano Area Dial-A-Ride is a shared ride experience. This means that other passengers may be on board during part of the transit to the passenger’s destination, and that your scheduled pick up times or routes of travel may be altered so another passenger can be accommodated. It is likely that the vehicle will stop and pick up other riders as it proceeds to your destination. At the most, a passenger will be on the bus for up to one hour.

Wheelchair Size & Weight Restriction
Wheelchair lifts on the Dial-A-Ride buses are designed to lift common wheelchairs that do not exceed 30 by 48 inches, measured two inches off the ground. The maximum weight restriction for the lifts is 600 pounds (chair and occupant).

Denial of Service
Delano Area Dial-A-Ride has the right to deny service if the transport of a passenger is deemed unsafe or inappropriate. No ADA Eligible trip will be denied as long as ADA eligible rider meets the requirements of using Dial-A-Ride service.
